New body means new wardrobe! It’s no secret that our bodies begin to change dramatically with each week of pregnancy. Despite the hopping hormones, the stretching uterus, and the extra pounds, we are glowing. Carrying a baby doesn’t automatically give you the permission to go dull with your outfits in public. Yes, we all have those lazy days. We all have those moments when sweats are the only thing our eyes see as we walk into our closet (I’m the ultimate lounging master).
I am sharing this post today to remind each and every one of us that we can still remain feminine, beautiful, and strong! Pregnancy is a divine experience that is meant to be celebrated. We can be radiant during pregnancy by owning our actions, our words, and our looks.
When styling a bump, there is one thing to remember - make the bump area at ease! There should be nothing pressing against the belly. The bump is a strict comfort zone! We don’t want to wear clothes that bring discomfort or even a dash of pain to our bellies. Our baby needs the entire area to move around. Do you remember what it’s like when your husband got into your way during high hormone levels? Yeah, it’s not pretty.
I won’t argue about the pure comfort of a pair of maternity leggings during those months of pregnancy. That doesn’t mean that you have to wear leggings throughout your entire pregnancy. A maternity dress is AS comfortable as a pair of leggings. Here is list of cute and affordable maternity clothes that I put together for the soon-to-be-mamas. I personally adore every single piece that is included in the chosen list below. It allows the “lady” in us to be more prominent.
This very Spring dress is as gorgeous in real life as it looks on the photos. The color pallete on the dress is so earthy and airy. Dressed up or dressed down, I will be repeating this outfit many more times. For my second outfit, I paired my plum-colored tank with a trench coat and trousers. The naturally lovable combination defines chic. Appropriate for an everyday outfit, a layered flowy tank top can be as comfortable as a dress.
A special acknowledgment goes to www.pinkblushmaternity.com for this special collaboration. Together, we made this blog post happen.
The crisp air, blooming trees, and birds singing acapella makes my heart melt. I can’t think of any other seasons that uplift my mood as much as Spring. I wouldn’t be committing any crimes if I camped out on my balcony one of these days. Once this beautiful weather hits our state, that is.
Since the state of Minnesota isn't teasing us with Spring just yet, we have to search for it somewhere else. This Saturday, my husband and I are going on our first vacation of the year! Miami, Florida- here we coooome! We are looking forward to full relaxation as we soak up some sun.
Attached links are the products that I know I can count on. These are my Spring Essentials for 2018. It includes everything from a good read to a good sunbathing session. Now, you can enjoy your Spring in style.
The last and first party of the year is coming up soon. Hair done, face prepped, dress on - we are ready to stay up all night long! This New Years party, I will be wearing the texture that I admittedly grew in connection with throughout the past year. The soft, fine, deep texture of velvet immediately drew my attention.
I was always intrigued by the quality of the fabric. It begs for second glances. I admire the way that velvet enriches the color of the piece. I also love the timeless appearance that velvet has portrayed throughout the years. For instance, the black midi dress that I am wearing in the photos most likely came from the 80’s. I snatched that vintage dress as soon as I laid my eyes on it. Although I had to moderately alternate the dress, this ten dollar investment is still my favorite thrift store find of the year.
If you appreciate a good deal as much as I do, then a thrift shop should be your next stop. Other girls might be willing to spend more money on a dress because it will last them a lifetime. I love that. Go and make history! Buy the dress today and it will be your personal vintage tomorrow.
During this upcoming party, you will spot me wearing my vintage dress with its own story. I AM willing to pass down the legacy.
Happy new year, sisters.
a contemporary daughter's gift guide
I would like to dedicate a "moment of silence" for the indecisiveness that contemporary family members bring. I like to call the contemporary crowd "picky people" and the French like to call them "a la mode." Because of the stress that they often cause to the gifter, picky people LOVE the idea of choosing their own gift! They'd prefer to pre-approve the items that you'll be wrapping for them. Unfortunately, things don't always work this way! A generous gifter wants to surprise and delight with something special coming from their heart.
Today, I will try to make your life a little simpler by showing you what modern ladies wish for. Below are the "all-time classic" items that you can choose from. All of the ideas below may come off as "trendy" - but they are here to stay. For example, the wool berets and leather belts have been around for decades! In my opinion, it's worth splurging on something so timeless. I hope that you find the inspiration that you'll LOVE to gift! And trust me, they'll LOVE your gift too:) Fingers crossed!
I hope your week is off to a good start!:) I see that you are optimistically set to enjoy life without “ragrets,” not even one. You make smart choices day after day. On top of that, you understand that the way you look and feel plays an affect on your daily mood. Tired or not, it’s a new day/another chance to achieve your goals today. To me it sounds like you are in the midst of success!
Quoting myself from one of my previous blog posts, “As you prepare for the forthcoming, you better look dope! Wear what will make you feel good! Appropriately choose the outfits that’ll make you look capable of success.” Let’s make a difference in our energy this Tuesday. I propose that we begin our week with the correct fitting. You will acquire your “boss lady” look after you grasp what I believe are the basic rules of styling. Let’s begin?
1.) Find your “IT” colors:
Vivids will brighten your complexion, pastels will mute your glow, and dulls will sophisticate your radiance. Choose the colors that correctly greet your skin tone, undertone, hair and eye color. Try going with pieces that will make your look pop! For example, make sure to show some love to your skin by avoiding clothing that will camouflage with your skin tone. Bring out that glow! Match colors to your eyes to make them sparkle. Explore complementary colors for you hair as well.
2.) Know your body type:
What flatters your body type without being distasteful? Whether you are tall, short, slim, curvy, or heavy, you have a lot of options to choose from. Do your hips need more confidence? Maybe wear puffy skirts and dresses for dimension. Shy about the perfect imperfections? You can never go wrong with baggy tops. To prolong your legs, add a pair of heels instead of platform sandals. And if nothing fits you quite well, then turn to basic rule #3.
Not your size? Not a problem! A little alteration and you can present our nation. Or maybe that one lucky piece can use a full transformation?! Find yourself a good tailor and take their advice into consideration. You want to elevate your outfit by flattering all of the appropriate areas. The tailor has your back. You are both on one team.
4.) Learn to combine:
Good taste gets identified easily. The common mistakes you’re making get spotted continually. Mixing and matching colors and then combining different sorts of fabrics should be fun, yet precise. Practice by putting together silk fabric with knitwear. You can also try combining floral and striped patterns. Be careful not to take it too far. Let the colors of the top flow smoothly into the colors of the bottoms. The sleek transition should be pleasant to the eyes. The final look should seem as if you are wearing a two-piece set.
5.) The right outfit for the right place:
It’s not the best feeling when you show up to a party and you’re the only one wearing a costume. Oops, didn’t get the memo! Do yourself a favor and find out the full information about the event you’ll be attending. From there, you can decide whether you want to stand out or blend in. I’ll give you major respect if you show up wearing a Gucci-inspired outfit.
Phew! Now you can take it from here. Spread your wings! Remember one thing, “an elegant woman will impress the elders and influence the youth.”
a feminine statement piece
Every white girl's favorite season is here! My family proclaims that I’m guilty as charged. As the defendant, I won’t even try fighting the charges. I’d rather settle outside of court. As long as we get to be outside, that is. I will always be Fall's biggest admirer.
Despite autumn’s short stay, we always manage to withdrawal more than we deposit! The crisp morning chills demand extra layers of apparel fabric, leaving us with fresh air and cozy cuddles. More cups of PSLs, more counts of pumpkin spice candles, and more boxes of pumpkin spice flavoring all help us get into our “autumn state of mind.” Whoa, and the golden army of leaves look so deliciously edible! However, as courteous citizens, we choose to eat the golden pumpkins instead. Take note that I didn't even get started with the fall activities..
Autumn is the occasion of our lifetime! It's a new era. A new world. Any accusations should not be addressed towards me, but towards Mother Nature. Autumn is supreme completeness. Every year, it is so worth the wait!
One of my favorite ways to engage with autumn is through the season’s fashion. I recommend you try new things. Whether it’s new garments or new recipes, we can all be adventurous during this brief season. Blending light fabrics and colors with warmer clothing creates the perfect transition into the Fall season.
Girls, I am here to deliver good news! Here is a delicious fall trend that won't break your bank account!
Sometimes the outfit doesn't feel complete until you add that one special accessory. Before the temperature descends below sixties, you probably won't be needing a pair of tights. Instead, you can complete the look with a subtle feminine statement: SHEER MATERIAL SOCKS. It's a simple way to stand out without being excessively obnoxious. These elegant, sheer socks can be paired with heels for church. Sheer socks can also be worn with flats or slippers for hangouts. I would even wear sheer socks with tennis shoes!
I remember owning a pair of sheer socks in my early teens. Later, they were thrown out and forgotten. After years and years, I ran into Free People! It was there that I discovered ruffled, half-solid, half-sheer socks! I wore them with heels to a large youth conference. Although they got mixed reviews, the sheer elegance made me feel like a confident lady.
For the longest time, I've secretly wished for the sheer statement to make it back into the fashion world. I knew for a fact that socks with heels will eventually grow on the fashionistas. Be careful what you wish for, they say…
Above are the two examples of how we can wear these fancy socks. Let me know your thoughts and opinions on this idea! I have something very cool in mind.
travel in style
Don't let the actual "traveling" part of your trip stop you from inspiring. There are ways to look appealing at the airport without having to dress into your finest attire.
In my personal experience, the downside of flying is the amount of energy it drains! I'd say that taking a road trip is less intense. For me, flying typically consists of interrupted naps and episodes of backaches. But who needs sleep when you're traveling with your BABE, aka travel partner?!
It's all worth it once your final landing comes. The heart skips a beat and wants to run off and start exploring!
While traveling, it is necessary for me to have my "look" under control. Planned out outfits make traveling easier and efficient. It saves me time, which is everything. Therefore, I recommend outfit-preps for every day that you'll be gone from home. Find out more about the places you'll be attending and prepare appropriate apparel.
So when does the actual adventure begin? Of course, the feels begin at the airport!
FANCY FEET: stylish kicks and comfy sandals are required for rushing to your gate (super adventurous, right?!)
GET LOOSE: sweatpants and leggings aren't the only bottoms designed for comfort. Loose dresses and flow-y skirts are as easygoing as pants (experiment with this)
TOP IT OFF: from nada to Prada, accessorize your basic tee! Either DIY, or purchase someone's sassy creation (as I did). Going out of your comfort zone?! AWESOMEEEEE
FACE TO FACE: touch up your gorgeous hair. Also, keep your face fresh and pleasant. You are likely to meet someone new while you're traveling (quite daring, I'd say!)
Inspire the world with your sense of style. Stay your unique self because that is always relevant. Imagine all of the street styles of the world combined - one beautiful canvas!
This Thursday we are taking off! Our first stop is Germany and then we will serve in Ukraine. Please keep us in your prayers as we proclaim our living Christ. We will keep you posted!:) Mwah!
G.A.P denim jacket, distressed version one here: GAP
GREEN: so unique and limited.
The color of fabric that most people don't own in their wardrobe. The color you normally won't spot the bridesmaids wearing. Indeed, seeing shoes in the color green is quite rare.
Why do most people avoid the color green? Or is it just that unnoticeable? Interesting... To me it seems like we are afraid to stand out! Not this time, darling! We will kick 'basic' in the behind! Mainstream is where you lose contact with what's most important- your individuality. That general flow will suction you in and be done with you like the last sip. Life will get ahead of those who choose to stay average.
Here's how I approach this. If I see an exclusive shade or an exclusive item, I do my best to be the owner of that piece. I snatch it. Just like that! Wait, who am I kidding?! I must've forgotten how gentle I really am..
By now you've probably realized that I'm writing this blog post simply because green is my favorite color. Green is the color of nature- which has so many different shades! Green reminds me of something deep and timeless. At the same time, it calls me to raise my eyes above the branches. It's quite an appealing sight when something's so fresh, leafy, and vibrant. My passion is to see more people embracing green into their style.
When I was putting together my outfit, I wanted to accent all my favorite shades of green. From the darker forest colors to the lighter sage colors, green never disappoints.
To give my "green look" a bold statement, I chose the red lip. Red certainly gently steals all of the concentration from my "monotone" outfit. This helps support my outfit and sustain it. I love the idea of "one colored outfit" that has depth through different textures and shades. Ladies and gentlemen, show me that green spirit! But if you truly want the world's full attention then start skipping down the street! Whoopti dooooo
Ladies, it's time we make a difference in our generation, in our church, and in this world. Let's start off with something most people believe is "meaningless" - the way you dress. This can say a lot about a person. Yup, I went there😆 Your dress code determines whether you are responsible (remember that responsibilities bring more opportunities) or immature (that's when your start breaking people's trust).
Out of all the places you'll visit, church should be a sacred place. This is where the brokenhearted get healed. Where the overwhelmed find peace. And where the cheerful treasure unity. Out of respect to God, we need to share the Jesus in us. Out of respect to our brothers and sisters in Christ, we need to dress appropriately not to evoke negative thoughts. Finally, out of respect to yourself, present a true image of the Christian living inside you.
All of my life I've been involved in a church that preserves Biblical principles. Growing up in a bold yet modest community taught me to "own" my outfit choices. I understand that nobody likes being told what to do or what to wear. It does not sound fair at all. Every individual gets a say in this!
If you love the place you're at right now (with your family, church, community, etc.), you will love to represent the name behind your story. Your main assignment is to recognize yourself in your crowd of people. Learn to be yourself and learn to love your destiny. Once you establish your own characteristic fashion style, you can make anything look good! From standard ballerina flats to humble button-ups, your name will pop! If for some reason you haven't found your place yet, that's okay! The day will come when you'll finally feel at home. And when that day comes, you will love in all circumstances.
I'm sure everyone understands that we can't have everything this world has to offer. Yes, you can learn, you can strive, and you can win at life! However, your options are limited in this moment. You are here now! In this very next second, you have this limited amount of money. You have this limited amount of time. Don't be spending more than you're making. But as you prepare for the forthcoming, you better look dope! Wear what will make you feel good! Appropriately, choose the outfits that'll make you look capable of success. You can still deliver intelligence and cleverness while being contemporary. There has always been progress found in the unordinary. Today's broadcast can confirm it! Thus, an elegant woman will impress the elders and influence the youth. But most importantly, her self-esteem will increase in a heartbeat!
Defend your feminism. Accept your life. Admire your choices. Stay beautiful.
I love the weekends mostly because I get to spend more time with my husband. Together, we get to explore our 'oh so cute' city called "Edina." Teddy and I like to spend more money on the weekends. We like to keep it fresh. Yet, we can't forget to clean our apartment on the weekends if we decide to stay inside. Wink wink.
Since it doesn't feel quite like Spring, we can't just yet put away our sweaters. Lately, I've been obsessed with loose, warm, comfy sweaters. Pairing baggy tops with tighter fitting bottoms will always be the perfect balance between ratchet and dapper. One way to make your loose tops look more attractive is by decorating your neck. Since the neckline in this sweater is already high enough, I've tucked in my favorite bandana.
I couldn't resist but to pair my velvet boots (that my mom bought me) with my outfit.
Good thing I had my wool coat - it really came in handy.
Happy Tuesday, darlings. A little sweetener. A shake of salt and pepper to spice things up. A little somethin-somethin to step up the game. An outfit choice being documented: that's all it is.
"I like your outfit" has always been one of my favorite compliments to give and to receive. Compliments like these are usually important to me for two reasons. Reason 1: when a girl compliments another girl, it is something freakin awesome. It's unusual for a gal to give a compliment to another gal. Attention to detail and respect towards an outfit is admirable. A generous gal is one who's soul shines. Reason 2: your final outfit decision is your own masterpiece. Nobody knows whether it took you an hour or just a couple of minutes to tastefully combine colors and fabrics. You put something together; now wear it with confidence.
School was always one of my favorite places to dress up for. Sweats and sneakers were only reserved for the stressful days of mine. This should be your philosophy as well. Life is too short to constantly make public appearances in lounging clothes. However, if you feel like you're fed up with life, then wear sweats, I guess.
I have decided to quit college to be a full-time wife and to work a full-time job. Most importantly, I did it to pursue what really caught my heart on fire. Since English was always my favorite subject, writing in my own blog is leaving me feeling fulfilled. I can continue working on my passion from home. I have the freedom to express my thoughts and share my life. School has taught me a lot; therefore, I will always remember the lessons as I apply them in my life. Even though I'm not a college student anymore, I am still a student of my new life. I'm always learning to be a better roommate and a better life partner.
Here is the dress, the coat, and the leather highs I wore this weekend to bear the Minnesota cold.
